Payday Loan Lenders - Some Red Flags To Watch Out For

71

By The Empire

There are a ton of payday loan lenders out there, and for every good one, there are three or four shady ones!  The good news is that there are some things that you can watch out for that will help you make sure that you're getting the loan that you need safely.

There are a lot of ways to get cash fast, but none are as reliable, yet risky, as the payday loan is.  Borrowing money once in a blue moon isn't going to screw you up too bad, but the second that you've become reliant on these loans to keep your financial boat afloat, you're going to come crashing down in a ton of debt.  There's really no way around it, so get a loan once, pay it off, then figure out how to never need one again.

This Hub is going to cover some different ways to avoid getting scammed with your payday loan.  There will be tips for both online and local loans, and some of them simply work for both.

Trust Your Instincts!

The first thing you can do to stay safe is to simply trust your gut.  You get positive or negative feelings about your surroundings all the time, and you can harness these to keep yourself out of trouble.

There are hundreds of payday loan lenders out there, so if you don't get a good feeling working with one, leave.  It's as simple as that, just bail out and go find another company that will lend you money.

If you don't feel right working with this company you'll never have confidence in your loan.  You get these feelings for a reason, so use them to avoid problems later on.

This feeling might come from their website, their office, or the people on the phone when you call them.  It's important that you figure this out before you sign a contract for your loan, or else you're stuck dealing with them.

Learn Who Actually Lends Money Online

If you're at all familiar with the big payday loan companies, you'll do a pretty good job finding them online.  If not, it can be easy to get lost when browsing around.

There are a few different styles of websites out there.  The first is for the companies that loan money.  These will have a distinct look that will have a section for returning customers to log in, a thorough FAQ section, terms and conditions that show their rates, and a phone number that you can also call.

Another type of site is for those that will collect your info, and then shop it out to multiple lenders.  There isn't anything inherently wrong with this, but it can cause some serious privacy concerns.  To spot these websites, look for the things that they don't have, and it should be all of the things that were discussed in the previous paragraph.  These websites will claim that they're shopping your info around for the best rate, but it's impossible to quantify this without doing the research yourself.

If you're comfortable throwing your personal info out there, take a gamble on that type of website.  Personally, I'm not comfortable with that, so I would stick with actual lenders.

Call Around For The Best Rates

When you want to get a loan locally, an easy way to save money is to call around to see who has the lowest rates.  This is also a great way to get a feel for what dealing with the lender is going to be like.

Obviously, you have to be able to get a local payday loan in your state for this to apply, but if your state does allow them, it's a great tactic.

Grab your local phone book and find the payday loan section.  Start dialing up the lenders in your area, and chat them up a little bit.  You're going to want to find out what their rates are like, as well as repayment terms.  While you're doing this, also pay attention to how helpful (or not helpful in most cases) they are.  A company that's willing to help you out at this phase is probably going to be able to help you through the entire process.

They Aren't All Sharks!

Not all payday loan lenders are out to get as much money as they possibly can from you.  Some of them certainly are, but with a little bit of research it's not hard to find one that will actually be pleasant to work with.

The bottom line is that you have to trust your instincts.  If something doesn't feel right, it probably isn't.  Doing this one simple thing can save you money, protect your identity, prevent major headaches, and help you feel a hell of a lot more confident about your choice to use payday loans.
